Read the silo before removing it

Comprendre pourquoi une information reste bloquée dans un coin de la maison

A private spreadsheet or oddly named folder may look like avoidable duplication. It may also preserve a distinction the shared system never learned to express: which edition is meant, what “approved” covers, or when a cover must return for review.

That does not make the container durable. It makes its meaning worth examining.

Before consolidation, ask what object the silo identifies, which uncertainty it reduces, which exception it carries and who interprets it. Then separate that knowledge from its fragile storage. Stable identities, explicit states and named sources of authority can form a shared core, while teams retain useful views of the same work.

Retiring a silo is safest after its memory has a new address. Otherwise, a tidy migration can remove the evidence needed to understand why the old practice resisted in the first place.
