Note — A Memory That Leaves Room to Experiment

Traceability can look like administration until a creative branch needs to be compared, abandoned, or resumed.

When each meaningful variant has an identity, a parent, and a status, experimentation becomes reversible. A different cover, reordered passage, or working translation can be tested without overwriting the selected version. A short decision note then explains why a change was kept: readability, meaning, attribution, rights, or collection voice.

The record should distinguish influence, source material, and permission. A reference can inspire without being reproduced; an accessible image is not automatically reusable. Open states such as “source not confirmed” protect uncertainty from being mistaken for approval.

This memory does not automate judgement. It makes the moments of human judgement visible and gives future editors a route back. Evidence can support creative freedom precisely because it keeps the origin, boundary, and reversibility of an experiment readable.
